About Dr. Biser

Dr. Biser, a Johns Hopkins-trained physician, is board-certified in general ophthalmology, and is fellowship-trained in corneal transplantation, LASIK, cataract surgery, and advanced anterior segment eye surgery. He remains a well-recognized researcher and teacher in his specialty. In addition to LASIK, he offers a range of refractive options including LASEK, PRK, clear lens extraction, and astigmatic keratotomy.

TRAINING and EXPERIENCE: Dr. Biser graduated cum laude with distinction in all subjects from Cornell University, and attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. He served his internship at Albert Einstein Medical College in Philadelphia, where he was voted outstanding transitional intern of the year. He trained in ophthalmic surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon graduation, he was awarded a Heed Fellowship, given to fewer than 30 ophthalmologists nationwide each year. He was selected for further training at a highly competitive cornea fellowship position at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island, where he trained with internationally-recognized pioneers in refractive surgery and corneal transplantation. From July 2002 through June 2004, he practiced in Fishkill, NY with a large group practice. In October 2003, he received additional certification by becoming one of the first surgeons in the U.S. selected to implant the Crystalens. In July 2004, he took over the ophthalmology practice in Fleetwood, NY (northern Mt. Vernon). In October 2004, he also began working at the 41st Street Medical Center in New York, NY.

RESEARCH and TEACHING: Dr. Biser has continued to pursue research interests by publishing articles, abstracts, and book chapters; presenting at national and international meetings; and participating in numerous FDA clinical studies. He was voted Surgical Attending of the Year for 2002-2003 at the combined MEETH/NYU (Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital/New York University) residency program, where he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Biser has received several awards for his research. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of both the American and International Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. His full c.v. is viewable online at www.fleetwoodeye.com.

LASIK EXPERIENCE: Dr. Biser's broad fellowship training in refractive surgery included experience with hundreds of refractive patients and a variety of techniques on excimer lasers. His familiarity with several excimer laser systems allows him to individually select the laser best suited for each patient. He currently prefers the VISX Star S4 (with or without CustomVue), or the Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217 laser. He continues to publish articles related to LASIK, and to teach advanced eye surgery techniques to other eye surgeons.
